Health & Safety Policy

The Board of Directors recognises the importance of Safety, Health and Welfare in the successful operation of its activities and believes in the active participation of every member of the company in order to achieve and maintain the highest possible standard of accident prevention.

Our activities will be conducted paying due regard to all statutory requirements, particularly the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, with appropriate safeguards against exposing employees and the general public to risks to their safety and health.

These aims will be achieved within the framework of the company’s organisation and arrangements for the promotion of safety, health and welfare, which are designed to satisfy its particular needs. The Board carries out its responsibilities for safety through its Managers for whom safety continues to be a vital part of their responsibilities.

SAFETY POLICY

It is the policy of the company to:

  • Provide, as far is reasonable, practical safe methods of work, safe working conditions and a healthy environment
  • Provide and maintain safe access to and egress from any place of work under the company’s control
  • Provide and maintain a working environment which is adequate as regards to facilities and arrangements for the health and welfare of employees whilst at work
  • Provide training or instruction as may be necessary to personnel at all levels
  • Provide means of consultation on health and safety matters for all employees
  • Carry out Risk Assessments and Method Statements to all operations that have potentially dangerous implications
  • Promote employee awareness and responsibility to avoid and prevent health hazards and injuries to themselves, other employees and members of the public
  • Provide and display this policy and such written instructions as are necessary to assist in the regulation of healthy and safe practices in all operations


UNDERSTANDING HEALTH & SAFETY AT WORK

  • Health & Safety is the responsibility of everyone – i.e. Directors, Managers, Health & Safety Officers and all employees.
  • If you are unsure of Health & Safety procedures ask you Contracts Manager of Health & Safety Officer.
  • If you witness any minor or major incidents that could have or did cause an accident, report it immediately.
  • If you consider anything within our working environment to be unsafe, report it immediately in order for the Health & Safety Officer to carry out a risk assessment.
  • If you witness any person using machinery or equipment that they have not been correctly trained on, report it immediately
  • Report any damaged, broken or faulty machinery and equipment immediately.
  • If you witness any unauthorised persons no employed by the company within the office or premises report them immediately.
  • Be aware of the Health & Safety Rules that allow the company to severely discipline employees who continue to ignore Health & Safety at Work.


HEALTH & SAFETY GUIDANCE NOTES FOR WINDOW INSTALLERS

Under the Health & Safety at Work Act (HSWA 1971) and Other Similar Health & Safety Regulations all Employees Have a Duty To

  • Take reasonable care for their own Health & Safety
  • Take reasonable care for the Health & Safety of anyone who may be affected by their acts or omissions
  • Co-operate with authorised personnel who have Health & Safety duties to perform e.g. Inspections
  • NOT to interfere or misuse anything provided in the interests of Health & Safety
  • Carry out a sufficient Risk Assessment to identify any risks to himself or others
  • Report any hazards or unsafe conditions to either Site Health & Safety Representative or Fairdeal Windows Contracts Manager
  • Carry out work in accordance with procedures laid down by Fairdeal Windows and / or Site Safety Controllers
  • Work, when applicable, under the specific requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007

MANUAL HANDLING

Window units are noted with approximate sizes. The average weight for sealed units is 22.5 kg per sq. m. Window frames average weight is 5.5 kg per sq. m. Therefore any sealed unit of greater than 2.2 sq. m. must be carried by two installers.

When working off ladders do not attempt to lift articles that are too heavy or awkward.


PERSONAL PROCTIVE EQUIPEMNT

Hard hats MUST be worn on all SITES. Other suitable PPE should be used, depending on site regulations for the protection against possible injury to eyes, ears, feet, hands or respiratory system.

Ensure that you have the correct equipment for this protection and the necessary information to know when and how to usr the equipment correctly.


RADIOS

NO radios are allowed on site.


SMOKING

NO smoking whilst inside Tenants/Owners property.


CONTROL OF SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH

Please ensure that you have copies of Material Hazard Sheets relating to any substances that you are using. These sheets will inform you of any problems in the use of a particular substance and also inform you of the precautions to be taken.

         Contains Acetoxy Silane, Polysiloxane & auxilaries
         Use only in well ventilated areas
         Store in dry, cool conditions
         Avoid contact with skin
         Irritating to eyes
         Keep out of reach of children
